Introductory Program - $125 Half Day, $150 Full Day
This is where all Hang Glider pilots got started. Discover what the sport is all about with this complete first day ground school. You will receive simulator time, ground work and your first flights from the training hill. The day starts with a film in the shop, you then get fitted for your training gear, we then walk out to our Flight park where you will begin your day of instruction. You will learn to balance the glider and start making short flights from the training hill. For Full Day students, we take a lunch break at 12:30 when we will go back to the shop, eat and watch another film. We will not be heading back out to the hill until 3:30 at which time you will go back to the point you were at when we all took our lunch break. This is when you will try to earn your way to the top of the hill for the longer flights. If you decide at the end of the day you would like to sign up for the Eagle Package and become a pilot we will put $100.00 of what you paid for the Intro program towards your Eagle package.
Lessons are done on small training hills, sort of like the "bunny slopes" used for learning to ski or snowboard. The students will fly solo in the glider, with the instructor observing and coaching from the base of the hill. The flights are brief: flying 5' to 10' above the ground, for perhaps 50-150' distance, and staying in the air for 5-10 seconds. Students make multiple flight attempts during the lesson. They launch from higher on the hill as they get more comfortable and skilled, and try to achieve longer and longer flights. The feeling of being lifted into the air as you run down the hill, even for a few seconds, is a wonderful experience!
What to Bring:
Boots or sturdy shoes (support), long pants, plenty of drinking water, sunscreen, and perhaps a change of clothes for afterwards.
